Calcutta HC to Hindustan Unilever: Stop ad on superior washing powder

Calcutta High Court asked Hindustan Unilever to put on hold the advertisement that shows its washing power product as superior to others, with immediate effect.

Justice Nadira Patheriya issued the ruling on a lawsuit filed by Procter & Gamble (P&G), which challenged the advertisement.

The Hindustan Unilever ad, which was broadcast on television, showed that its product RIN had a capacity to clean a shirt to glistening white, a "unique" quality that other products lacked.

The P&G moved the High Court, challenging the advertisement.

Justice Patheriya heard counsels of both the companies and ruled that Hindustan Unilever should stop the advertisement.
